Matthew is a pizza maker for Whole Foods Market in Santa Cruz. He has been “spinning dough” acrobatically for three years. Pizza making his passion, as well as making music!

 

The Great Butter Shakedown With Organic Valley
Grab a jar and some cream and help us set the Guinness World Record for “The Most People Making Butter Simultaneously”!  Shake your jar and your body to some mean beats while you practice a time-honored food tradition.

 

Bhangra Dancing With Dholrhythms
Learn the ancient harvest dance of the Punjab, made popular in the West by Bollywood films. Dholrhythms will give a dance performance followed by a Bhangra lesson and group dance.

 

The Sprouts Kid’s Cook-Off
Two teams of young chefs from Sprout’s Cooking Club square off in an Iron Chef-type battle against each other and the clock. When the mayhem and smoke clears, a team of distinguished judges will declare a winning team.

 

Steer Butchery Competition
Join us again this year to watch two teams of master butchers each dismantle a hindquarter of steer! This year’s contest pits the returning champions, the Yevras brothers from Marin Sun Farms, against Avedano’s finest knife-masters. Hosted by Anya Fernald, founder of Eat Real Festival.


Chinese Noodle Pulling With Chef Gordon
Watch Chef Gordon perform the fantastic Northern Chinese method of noodle pulling. This ancient method of creating thin, toothsome noodles requires slinging the noodles in the air to stretch them out. Not to be missed!

 

Pig Butchery Competition
Carlo Espinas of Comstock Saloon and Chris Arentz from Avedano’s face-off in a fast-paced butchery frenzy. The competition will be judged on speed, cut accuracy and waste by a group of pork experts. Then follow Chris and the pork bellies to the Food Skills Stage for the bacon workshop directly afterwards!
