Music

We’ve put together a pretty sweet line-up of bands and DJs that’ll drop the meanest beats from around the world — including punk-folk, blues, and afro beat bands, a 33-piece Rondalla and more. Check it out!

Sun Hop Fat

Sun Hop Fat was conceived in the belly of the Vulcan Lofts in East Oakland. Inspired by the music of the “Swinging Addis” period, the group forges new arrangements of its Ethiopian classics and incorporates its own compositions.

Beatbeat Whisper

Begun among the oak trees and upright pianos of Sonoma County, Beatbeat Whisper is the project of sibling singer-songwriters Davyd and Ayla Nereo, based in Oakland, California. The two began making music as wee ones; Ayla notated piano chords in her own music language, and Davyd recorded experimental punk-folk into a computer. They formed Beatbeat Whisper in 2006.

Misisipi Rider

Misisipi Rider is Katy Rexford, Misisipi Mike Wolf, Cree Rider, Doug Blumer, and Jon Fojitik. They are singing for their supper, but will buy the drinks if you are willing to drive them home.

Carne Cruda

The world’s premier post-Latin band! Raw and ready to rock, Carne Cruda hits the scene hard with the unbridled energy of the rowdiest Latin music. Blending surf with Cumbia, son with soca and traditional with indie, the Carne Crudeboys (and Crudegirl) are a plastic flamingo on the neatly kempt lawn of salsa music, jumping and shouting all over the tennis courts of the Latin traditionalists.

Sadza Marimba

We have been bringing audiences in California to their feet with the danceable, joyful rhythms of Zimbabwe for 10 years. Our band consists of a blend of soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass marimbas, drums, gourd shakers and vocals. This African-style upbeat music elicits strong emotions in our fans and appeals to listeners of all ages!

Deborah Crooks Band

San Francisco songwriter Deborah Crooks is an intimate and edgy artist whose lyric-driven and soul-wise music has drawn comparison to Lucinda Williams, Chrissie Hynde and Natalie Merchant. Singing about faith, love and loss, her lyrics are honed by a lifetime of writing and world travel while her music draws on folk, rock, Americana and the blues.

Rondalla del Sagrado Corazon

This Rondalla was born from the motivation of Francisco Javier and Javier Espinosa to bring the tradition of Rondalla music to mass at the parish of St. Mark in Richmond CA, and St. Paul in San Pablo CA. Their first practice Began on October 11, 2007 with a small group of four people; the founders of La Rondalla, Horacio Ruiz, Jesus Gonzalez, Francisco J. Espinosa and Luis Javier Espinosa. With all the blessings received from God our Father, La Rondalla now counts on 33 individuals.

Citizen Zain

Citizen Zain delivers his passion of beat makers, bass shakers, melody players and rhyme sayers from around the world. When mixing his DJ sets, he brings a sonic canvas of diverse sounds blending dub and reggae with electro and hip-hop with bhangra, afro beat and everything in between.
